US Postal Service Elvis Stamp
Did you know that the very first Elvis Presley postage stamp was issued by Grenada in 1978 on the very first anniversary of his death? Elvis fans in the United States had to wait until what would have been Elvis Presley's 58th birthday on 8th January 1993, for the release of the US Postal Service Elvis Stamp. That stamp, of course, went on to become the most profitable stamp in the entire history of the US Postal Service and is still an immensely popular piece of Elvis philatelic memorabilia today, with serious collectors aiming to acquire whole sheets of the stamp, first day of issue covers or even very special covers cancelled with the words Return to Sender, after the name of one of the King's most famous songs.
Such is the lasting appeal of Elvis that many nations all over the world – from Antigua to Zaire - that specialise in the issue of postage stamps specifically aimed at foreign collectors, have brought out new Elvis postage stamps to mark every recent anniversary with gorgeous pre-cancelled miniature sheets and commemorative issues.
